I do not know much about MEXT. I am sure though that the response that I would have been given would have been much the same as CLAIR.

As of the beginning of this school year, the English course in the Junior High School system changed drastically. Not only were ALT's not informed of these changes, but there was a mid-year conference in January - a perfect opportunity to discuss these major changes. Instead, we were forced to discuss the same empty issues like "How to increase student's communicative competence" (scrap the grammar-oriented textbook). Why are ALT's (especially those with TEFL/TESOL qualifications) contributions never sought? And even when decisions/changes have been made, why are we not informed?

not a good idea to DECREASE the amount of material in textbooks. and even worse idea to DECREASE the hours of classtime spent on english edu.

i studied japanese in college 5 (class) hours a week and it was still difficult to grasp a working understanding of the language. how can jh students, given merely 3 (class) hours hours, possibly be expected to learn a foreign language?

shitty textbooks & ridiculous syllabus & schedule

In a general sense, (as all JETs) I have a problem with the grammar translation method of teaching English.

My students learn how to copy and repeat words in unison, but they are often clueless as to what those words mean, or how to use them in a sentence.
